Frequently asked questions
Before and after installing. Missing an answer? Write to us at feedback@fiou.app.
The three people ask first
Does my partner have to pay too?
No. Without a subscription the app is complete for sharing and capturing: the list, dictation, scanning, reminders, household memory, and tasks prepared by the iPhone when it can. Fiou+ turns on for the Apple account of whichever of you subscribes, not for the other members.
Where is my data?
On your iPhones and in the household’s iCloud database, at Apple, encrypted at rest. No usage statistics are collected. Our only server sends your notifications, reminders as well as each other’s news, without being able to read them. With Fiou+, and only if you allow it, Claude, by Anthropic, receives a capture’s text to prepare and, for the assistant, the conversation, the open tasks and the non-sensitive facts, without your family’s first names. The privacy policy has the details.
How do I delete everything?
- Deleting the app erases what is on the phone, conversations included; an earlier backup of the iPhone keeps a copy.
- The household’s data stays in the iCloud of the person who created it. On their iPhone: Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage › Fiou! › Delete Data. Attachments and facts go with it.
- The other members do the same on their phones.
Our notification service forgets an iPhone when Apple reports its token as expired after the app’s deletion, or when that iPhone joins another household, and the whole household after sixty days without activity. For the emails you wrote us, ask us to erase them at feedback@fiou.app.
Getting started
Who is the app for?
Two or more adults, up to six, who share the running of a household, often with school-age children: sign-ups, school lunches, after-school care, paperwork, taxes, bills, renewals. Each person has an iPhone and an Apple account; the list is shared.
How do I invite my partner?
In the app, Settings › Sync › Invite my partner sends a link through Messages. On the other iPhone, the link opens Fiou!, where your partner picks a first name and a color and joins the household: the list is already there. If the link does not open, paste it into the app; there is a field for that. After that, anyone in the household can invite more people with the same link, through Settings › Sync › Invite someone else. A household holds six people at most.
Does each of us need an Apple account?
Yes. Fiou! syncs through iCloud, between the account of the person who created the household and the accounts of the people who joined it. iCloud must be on for Fiou! on every phone (Settings › your name › iCloud).
Do children have an account?
No. Children are tags on tasks and facts (“Léa”, “Tom”), to filter and find things. They have no access to the app.
Do I have to sign in with Apple?
It is offered, not required. Signing in with Apple fills in your first name; the identifier stays on your iPhone. Otherwise, you type a first name and pick a color.
Which languages?
English and French, from the first version. The app follows the iPhone’s language; dictation and task preparation work in that language.
Day to day
What does “To check” mean?
Everything that arrives by voice, scan, share or keyboard is a draft first, in a dashed yellow outline. The AI proposes a category, a due date, steps; you check, you correct, and “Looks right” confirms. A proposal can be wrong: that is why it waits for your eye.
What if I have no signal?
The capture still lands, right away, on your phone. Sync and, if needed, Claude wait for the network to come back. Nothing is lost in between.
Who sees what?
Everyone in the household sees the same list, the same facts and the same attachments. Your conversation with the assistant is kept on your iPhone, never synced, and the household never sees it; only its outcomes (a task created, a reminder set) show up in the shared list, as if you had done it by hand. While an action’s card offers “Undo” (ten seconds, thirty with VoiceOver or Switch Control), the household doesn’t see it yet.
Does Fiou! keep score?
No, never. Color says who holds a task, not who did the most. No number measures who did what: the list counts tasks, never anyone’s effort.
How do reminders work?
You set a reminder on a task; it rings on time, even with the app closed. Each of you can also get the daily rundown and the week ahead, at a time of your choosing. Fiou! also lets you know, with a short delay so it never floods you, when someone else takes or finishes something; that news waits until quiet hours end. Our notification service sends all of it without being able to read your tasks; failing that, your iPhone does it itself.
The AI
Where does the AI work?
On the iPhone first: transcribing your voice, reading a scanned paper and preparing tasks, with the Apple Intelligence model. When the iPhone cannot, and only with Fiou+ and “Allow Claude” on, the captured text is prepared by Claude, Anthropic’s service. The app says where it happened every time: in the notice after the capture, on the task, in Settings.
iOS 18 or iOS 26?
Fiou! works from iOS 18: the list, capture, sync, reminders. For the iPhone to prepare tasks itself, it needs iOS 26, an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro and later) and Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. Otherwise, Claude does it with Fiou+, if you allow it; without a subscription, the task lands as captured, marked to check.
What goes to Claude, exactly?
To prepare a task: the captured text, meaning what you dictated, scanned, shared or typed, with today’s date. For the assistant, with every message: the last twenty messages of the conversation, yours included, the household’s open tasks, every non-sensitive fact in the memory, and the household’s date, time and time zone. Nothing is sent until you allow Claude, and turning it off stops anything more from being sent.
Before anything is sent, your iPhone swaps the family’s first names for placeholders (“[Child 1]”, “[Adult 1]”) and puts them back in the answer. Surnames and other people you mention, a teacher or a doctor, are not masked. Never sent: a fact marked sensitive, or messages older than those last twenty. These exchanges go straight from your iPhone to Anthropic: we do not see them.
Can I turn the AI off?
Yes. Settings › Intelligence › “Allow Claude” stops every upload; drafts then wait on the phone. Apple Intelligence turns off in the iPhone’s Settings. Capture, the list and sharing keep working.
Fiou+
What is free, what is paid?
Free: the shared list, capture, tasks prepared by the iPhone, reminders, household memory, export. Fiou+: the private assistant, which also draws on the household memory, and tasks prepared by Claude when the iPhone cannot. Fiou+ turns on for the Apple account that subscribes. The price will be announced at launch.
How do I cancel?
In the app, Settings › Subscription › Manage subscription; or in your Apple account settings: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. The subscription stays active until the end of the paid period. Refunds are requested from Apple.
Your data
Can I get my data out?
Yes, at any time: Settings › Export household produces a JSON file with the household’s tasks, facts and activity, which you save wherever you like. “Import” loads an export back.
I am changing iPhone: what happens?
Install Fiou! on the new one, with the same Apple account: the household comes back through iCloud. Conversations with the assistant are never synced: they come along only if you set up the new iPhone from the old one, by restoring its backup or by direct transfer.
Everything else
Can I leave a household?
Not from the app yet: that comes in a later version. If you join another household, your iPhone moves to it. If nobody else used the first one, your tasks come with you and it is deleted. Otherwise your name and the tasks you had taken stay there, and the others can take them on.
What about Android?
Not for now. Fiou! is an iPhone app: you each need an iPhone. A web companion may come before an Android version, if people ask for it.
Why “Fiou!”?
It is the French “phew”: the breath you let out when the form is finally sent. The app exists for that moment, not to keep tabs on who does what.
How do I reach you?
Through the “Send feedback” button in the app’s Settings, or at feedback@fiou.app. See also the Support page.
